Lihnell’s Distillery: The Last Sherry Darling

After sixteen years of maturation, the story of Sherry Darling is reaching its final chapter. The Last Sherry Darling is the grand finale of the acclaimed whisky series from Lihnell’s Distillery – a 16-year-old Swedish single malt created for those who appreciate the depth, richness and unmistakable character of heavily sherry-matured whisky.

Deep reddish-brown in colour, bottled at a powerful 53.4% ABV and limited to just 598 individually numbered bottles, this final release represents the culmination of a remarkable maturation journey.

Sixteen Years in Oloroso Sherry Casks

The whisky began its long maturation in unusually small 50-litre Oloroso sherry casks. The high ratio of oak to spirit allowed the whisky to develop an exceptionally concentrated cask influence, building layer upon layer of dried fruit, chocolate, nuts and spice.

But intensity alone was never the objective.

To soften the powerful influence of the smaller casks and allow the spirit to develop greater elegance and balance, the whisky was subsequently transferred to larger 225-litre Oloroso sherry casks, where it spent a further six years maturing.

The extended second maturation gave the whisky time to settle, integrate and evolve. The muscular influence of the oak became rounder and more refined, while the rich Oloroso character remained firmly at the centre of the experience.

The result is an exceptionally smooth yet intensely flavoured Swedish single malt – a true “sherry bomb”, but one defined as much by balance as by power.

A Rich and Layered Sherry Whisky

On the nose, The Last Sherry Darling is big and distinctly malty, immediately revealing the influence of its long years in Oloroso oak. Dried apricots lead into butterscotch, roasted hazelnuts, orange and soft vanilla.

The palate is full-bodied, rich and complex. The massive sherry-cask character brings concentrated dried apricot and dark chocolate, joined by nutty browned butter, orange and warming spices.

Despite its intensity and 53.4% ABV, the whisky retains an elegant structure and remarkable smoothness.

The finish is long, warming and persistent. Oloroso-soaked oak lingers pleasantly, accompanied by dark fruit, nuts and spice long after the final sip.

The Final Chapter of Sherry Darling

The Last Sherry Darling was created as more than another release. It marks the conclusion of the Sherry Darling series and represents the final expression of its distinctive style.

Sixteen years of maturation, two different Oloroso sherry cask formats and an exceptionally limited number of bottles come together in a whisky designed to provide a fitting conclusion to the story.

For collectors and lovers of heavily sherried single malt alike, The Last Sherry Darling offers one final opportunity to experience the series at its most mature, concentrated and refined.

A final sherry bomb.

A final chapter.
