In collaboration with the Medieval Week on Gotland (August 4-11, 2024), Gotland Whisky is releasing their new expression Sleipner on August 5. This wonderfully smoky whisky features notes of vanilla and honey. Of course, it is organic and eco-labeled.
Gotland Whisky Sleipner is a 6-year-old whisky, made from the distillery’s smoky recipe, aged in refill casks of American oak.
Medieval Week
Medieval Week is a festival that has been held annually during week 32 on Gotland since 1984, primarily in Visby but also in the countryside. For eight days each year, the island returns to the Middle Ages, inspiring the flavor of this whisky with its smoky character.
The Medieval Week pin was created by Alexandra Hytönen, who also helped the distillery with the label for the bottling.
This year’s theme for the The Medieval Week is horses. Norse god Odin’s horse, Sleipner, is this year’s motif and also the the name of the whisky bottling.
Sleipner
Sleipner, the legendary horse of the Norse god Odin, is known for his unparalleled speed and unique characteristics. Sleipner is no ordinary steed. He possesses eight legs, making him swifter than any other horse, able to traverse land, air, and sea with ease. Sleipner is not only a symbol of strength and speed but also of mystical power, often depicted carrying Odin on his travels between the worlds of gods, humans, and the dead. This extraordinary horse embodies the essence of Norse mythology’s rich and fantastical tradition.
Sleipner is an ideal horse to reach the small island in the Baltic Sea for Medieval Week on Gotland.
