On Monday, September 16th, 2024, the Swedish whisky distillery Skånska Spritfabriken proudly introduced their newest whisky, Hemvändaren. Distilled in the same batch as its predecessor, Resenär, this whisky has developed its own unique character through maturation in different types of casks, giving it a distinct and refined flavor profile. Crafted with locally sourced barley malt from Trolle Ljungby, malted in Fjälkinge, and using wort from Torna Hällestad, Hemvändaren is a true testament to the artisanal craftsmanship of Skåne.
The creation of Hemvändaren has been entrusted to the master blender Jan Rothman, who carefully distilled the whisky in traditional pot stills located in the Cognac region of France. Following distillation, Hemvändaren embarked on an eight-year maturation journey at Sandby Mosse in Skåne. Initially, the whisky was aged in lightly toasted Slovenian oak barrels, before undergoing a final period of maturation in stout casks. This combination of casks has enriched the whisky with a profound complexity and depth of flavor.
Hemvändaren is a double cask whisky with an alcohol content of 40.8%, offering a rich and balanced taste that reflects its meticulous aging process across two countries.
