High Coast Distillery Mountains 02 – Borgberget

Swedish whisky distillery High Coast Whisky releases Mountains 02 – Borgberget:  a non-peated whisky aged in Moscatel wine casks that continues to celebrate the essence of the High Coast region in Sweden.

The Mountains series in the High Coast range signifies whisky matured in wine casks, and with Borgberget, the character is shaped by casks that have previously held Moscatel, a sweet fortified wine. This series is an extension of the distillery’s Origins collection, tied together with their Silent Mills and Harbours Collection, and represents a tribute to the landscape and surroundings where the whisky is made.

Borgberget itself is named after an ancient hill fort near Stensätter, with remnants still visible at its peak, surrounded by steep cliffs. The fortress is also called Stensättersborgen. From the top, you can see dense forests and part of the industrial landscape, with a view of the bay that stretches toward the distillery.

Moscatel casks

The Moscatel casks impart a fruity sweetness to the whisky, with flavors reminiscent of tutti-frutti, alongside notes of papaya, vanilla, and other subtle undertones. The result is a well-balanced, elegant, and unpeated whisky with a name that carries historical significance.

In the fall, Mountains 02 – Borgberget won first place in the Nordic Single Malt Whisky category at the Whisky Battle competition, organized by Allt om Whisky magazine, further solidifying its reputation.
