Spirit of Hven proudly introduces Seven Angels – St. Jegudiel, a new release in its acclaimed Seven Angels series, celebrating the art of whisky-making through craftsmanship, patience, and storytelling. This limited-edition Swedish single malt whisky is bottled at 50.6% ABV and represents both innovation and deep-rooted tradition from the island distillery in the Öresund.
The Seven Angels series is known for its annual, small-batch releases, each expression offering a unique character shaped by carefully selected casks and meticulous blending. The St. Jegudiel edition is no exception, with only 1,974 bottles produced in 500 ml format, making it a highly sought-after release among whisky enthusiasts and collectors.
Distilled, matured, and bottled entirely at Spirit of Hven, St. Jegudiel is a sophisticated blend of six whisky casks aged between 10 and 13 years. The composition showcases a thoughtful interplay of cask types. Most of the whisky is crafted from unpeated malt, contributing a floral and elegant profile with subtle hints of leather and nuttiness. American Chinquapin oak casks lend creamy textures and notes of freshly baked pastry, while French Allier oak introduces structure with earthy undertones and refined spice.
Adding further depth, select casks previously held Cabernet Franc wine from Northern Italy, infusing the whisky with a warm fruitiness and aromatic complexity. Additional casks that once contained Italian dessert wine contribute a delicate sweetness with caramelized and citrus accents. The final blend is slowly reduced to its ideal bottling strength, ensuring balance and harmony throughout.
On the nose, St. Jegudiel reveals a rich bouquet of spices and ripe berries, layered with vanilla and hints of spring blossoms. The palate delivers a remarkable balance—beginning with a lively acidity, followed by a smooth, oily texture and mineral nuances. Subtle smokiness lingers in the background, evoking early spring evenings by the grill, complemented by notes of roasted almonds and barbecue. The finish is long and refined, with gentle traces of licorice and sweetness.
When diluted with water, the whisky evolves further, unveiling a broader aromatic spectrum that transitions from spice to herbal freshness. Flavor notes reminiscent of flambéed crêpe Suzette, coffee, and chocolate emerge, alongside delicate floral tones such as elderflower and lilac, underscored by the earthy scent of newly awakened soil.
The name St. Jegudiel draws inspiration from the archangel traditionally associated with work, perseverance, and reward—symbolizing the dedication required in whisky-making. According to distillery lore, each cask carries its own “guardian,” reflecting the passage of time and the unseen forces shaping maturation. This narrative embodies Spirit of Hven’s philosophy: whisky is not merely a product, but a result of patience, craftsmanship, and respect for nature.
Located on the scenic island of Hven between Sweden and Denmark, Spirit of Hven operates a complete grain-to-glass production, crafting everything from whisky to gin, vodka, and aquavit. The distillery also offers a visitor experience with a hotel, restaurant, and bar, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the origins of its spirits.
With Seven Angels – St. Jegudiel, Spirit of Hven continues to push the boundaries of Scandinavian whisky, delivering a complex, elegant, and story-driven expression that reflects both its heritage and its forward-thinking approach.
