High Coast Whisky proudly presents Elfkungen, the first release in the new Riverboats series—an 11-year-old single malt that connects the distillery’s heritage with the rich history of the Ångerman River.
The Riverboats series takes inspiration from Älv, part of High Coast’s Origins range, and serves as a tribute to the waterways that have shaped both the landscape and the people of Sweden’s High Coast. With this new series, the distillery builds upon its core identity while exploring new expressions rooted in the same foundation.
A Natural Evolution of Älv
As the first bottling in the Riverboats series, Elfkungen is firmly grounded in the DNA of Älv, where bourbon cask maturation plays a central role.
For this release, the bourbon influence is complemented by oloroso sherry casks, creating a whisky that is both complex and elegant.
The flavor profile offers:

- Notes of orange and oak

A Name Rooted in History
The name Elfkungen is inspired by the historic paddle steamer of the same name, built in Härnösand in 1848. As one of the first passenger vessels to operate on the Ångerman River, it navigated through timber logs, sawmills, and powerful currents—becoming a symbol of resilience and progress in a region shaped by both industry and nature.
Craft, Maturation, and Character
Elfkungen is an 11-year-old unpeated single malt, matured exclusively in bourbon and oloroso sherry casks.
Bottled at 51% ABV, the whisky has been carefully reduced to highlight both its structure and balance, allowing its full character to shine.
Part of a Larger Story
The Riverboats series represents the final chapter in High Coast Whisky’s long-running interpretation of the Origins concept. Previous series—Silent Mills, Harbours Collection, and Mountains—have explored different elements of the region’s heritage.
Together, these releases form a collection of 14 whiskies, each telling a part of the story of High Coast Whisky through themes of sawmills, harbours, mountains, and now, riverboats.
With Elfkungen, that story continues—flowing from the past into the present, carried by the river that defines the High Coast.
