The Swedish whisky distillery Agitator Whiskymakare launches new limited edition whisky in the premium Evidens series. Following last year’s success, Agitator is launching a third limited edition premium whisky, Agitator Evidens: Porter Cask. This unique release blends the flavors of whisky and beer, aged in casks from the award-winning Närke Kulturbryggeri’s porter. It’s also the largest release to date in the series.
The Evidens series is Agitator’s collection of limited premium whiskies, each with a distinct flavor profile. Last year, the series began with two releases: Agitator Evidens: Sauternes, a small batch of 579 bottles in January 2023, followed by Agitator Evidens: Svartvete, a slightly larger release of 720 bottles in October. On November 21, 2024, Agitator will release 1,293 bottles of Agitator Evidens: Porter, with 1,100 available at Systembolaget, marking the series’ largest edition so far.
“The idea behind the Evidens series is to offer a taste experience that’s anything but ordinary. This time, we chose to create a whisky together with Närke Kulturbryggeri, not only because of their close location but because they’re recognized as one of the world’s best porter producers. The exact bottle count is a small easter egg for those with a real interest in British beer,” says Oskar Bruno, Agitator’s distillery manager.
Agitator Evidens: Porter highlights Agitator’s dedication to using a lower cask-filling strength. This 55% filling strength brings out maximum flavor and character from the oak casks without compromising quality.
The whisky has been aged in new American oak and finished in the same casks that previously held Närke Kulturbryggeri’s award-winning Stormaktsporter, resulting in a rich harmony of strong porter notes, smoke, vanilla, and oak—a bold combination that takes center stage.
“We knew we wanted to age this whisky in beer casks, marking our first venture into this approach. Närke Kulturbryggeri has previously aged their beer in our whisky casks, and now it’s our turn to continue the collaboration. To match the robust porter flavors, we’ve balanced it with strong notes of smoke, vanilla, and oak,” says Oskar Bruno.
