Cassiopeia is a 10-year-old Swedish single malt whisky, bottled at 43.7% ABV, made exclusively from Swedish malted barley. Brewed, distilled and matured on Hven, it reflects the island’s distinctive character and the meticulous philosophy of Spirit of Hven’s production – from grain to glass .
Inspired by the Stars – and by History
This release pays homage to the astronomer Tycho Brahe, whose groundbreaking observations forever changed our understanding of the universe. In 1572, Brahe discovered a “new star” – later identified as a supernova – in the constellation Cassiopeia. Supported by King Frederik II, Brahe was granted the island of Hven as a base for his scientific work, where he built the legendary Uraniborg and Stjerneborg observatories.
In 2026, the 450th anniversary of Tycho Brahe’s arrival on Hven will be celebrated – a fitting moment to release a whisky inspired by his legacy of curiosity, precision and patience. Like the celestial bodies that inspired its name, Cassiopeia is a whisky created to take its time .
Crafted with Precision and Patience
Cassiopeia was distilled in 2015 and matured for ten years on Hven. The whisky is a blend of nine 500-litre oak casks, primarily virgin oak, with one ex-Pedro Ximénez sherry cask adding depth and complexity. The production uses mainly unsmoked malted barley, complemented by a smaller portion smoked with peat, oak shavings and seaweed – a subtle nod to the island’s maritime surroundings.
Under the guidance of Master Distiller Henric Molin at Spirit of Hven, Cassiopeia has been shaped into a whisky that balances strength and finesse: long, round and harmonious – a whisky for sybarites .
Scent and Taste
On the nose, Cassiopeia opens with roasted nuts, honey, licorice and vanilla, followed by fruitier notes of marzipan and blooming cherry orchard. The base is layered with almonds, butterscotch, figs and lemon balm, with a distinctly Scandinavian touch reminiscent of spettekaka on the horizon.
The palate delivers a slow, soft explosion of sensations: sweetness and acidity in balance with bitterness and mineral notes, leading to a long, finely tuned finish. With a splash of water, the whisky reveals coastal aromas of bonfire smoke, sea foam, ripe wild apples and subtle maritime nuances, while the texture becomes even more velvety and elegant .

Cassiopeia is released in a strictly limited edition of 3,892 bottles, each 700 ml. Launching on January 30th, 2026, it is created for collectors, enthusiasts and anyone eager to discover a new star in the whisky sky.
