Lihnells Distillery is a Swedish whisky distillery based in Örebro, dedicated to crafting expressive single malts that reflect both place and precision. With a strong focus on balance, maturation, and character, the distillery continues to shape a distinctly Swedish whisky identity.
The latest release, Svartån, follows the earlier expression in the series, Hemfjärden (read more about Hemfjärden here: https://swedishwhisky.se/lihnells-distillery-launches-hemfjarden/). Together, the series explores local geography as inspiration, translating Örebro’s surrounding waters and landscapes into whisky form.
Named after the river that quietly winds through the heart of Örebro, Svartån captures a sense of steady movement and depth. This is the distillery’s signature medium-peated single malt, carefully distilled and matured for five years in a combination of New American Oak and ex-Bourbon casks.
The dual maturation brings layered complexity. Fresh American oak contributes structure, spice, and vibrant wood influence, while the bourbon casks introduce rounded sweetness and soft vanilla undertones. These elements frame the whisky’s rich, balanced smoke and give it both definition and elegance.
The result is a characterful Swedish single malt that unites local heritage with dedicated craftsmanship.
