In the heart of the Baltic Sea lies its jewel: Gotska Sandön. This mythical island has, through the centuries, been home to seal hunters, lumberjacks, pirates, and lighthouse keepers—and the final destination for numerous ships. Off its shores stretches Beckrevet, a treacherous reef that has given rise to both tragedy and legend. With Isle of Lime Beckrevet, Gotland Whisky brings this dramatic place to life in the form of a seven-year-old single malt deeply rooted in Gotland’s raw materials, craftsmanship, and history.
A Whisky Shaped by Sea and Story
Beckrevet is more than a name—it is a narrative shaped by the power of the sea. One legend tells of a sea captain who attempted an insurance scam by deliberately running his ship aground, only to meet his fate at Beckrevet. The entire crew, including the captain, is said to have perished, with only the ship’s cabin salvaged by the islanders. The vessel is believed to have been the Norwegian brig Arfprinsen, which ran aground on Sandön in 1850.
Gotland Whisky draws inspiration from this maritime drama, crafting a whisky that reflects salinity, depth, and smoke—a liquid interpretation of place and memory.
Maturation and Craft
Beckrevet has matured in eight carefully selected casks:
- Five 200-liter first-fill bourbon casks
- Two 100-liter refill casks made from American medium-toast oak
- One first-fill Oloroso sherry cask made from American oak
All casks, except for the sherry cask, were filled with spirit produced using the distillery’s peated recipe at approximately 20 ppm. The cut to the heart begins after 30 minutes and ends at 61% ABV, a method that balances elegance, structure, and character.
All barley is grown and malted on Gotland. The raw material is organic and KRAV-certified, reinforcing the connection between land, agriculture, and the final whisky.

Beckrevet carries a distinct coastal presence in every layer.

Nose: Fruity with notes of almond and vanilla
Palate: Salty liquorice, vanilla, violet, and smoke
Finish: Raisins, vanilla, and ash
The smoky character intertwines with the sweetness from the bourbon casks and the depth provided by the sherry cask. The result is a complex yet approachable single malt where saline and floral tones meet soft vanilla and a gently ashy finish.
