Swedish whisky distillery High Coast Whisky proudly announces the launch of the third installment in its celebrated Mountains series – Mountains 03 Skuleberget. This unpeated whisky is a tribute to the iconic Skuleberget, the shining star of the High Coast region, offering a symphony of exotic fruitiness and a spicy kick, balanced by soft notes of vanilla and marzipan.
Following in the footsteps of its predecessors, Mountains 02 – Borgberget and Mountains 01 – Multråberget, this latest release pays homage to Skuleberget, a site rich in history and natural beauty. Standing at 295 meters above sea level, it holds Sweden’s highest shoreline mark after the last Ice Age, adding to its mystique and grandeur.
High Coast Distillery’s Mountains series showcases whiskies matured in various wine casks, each expression drawing inspiration from prominent mountains in Sweden’s High Coast region. The inaugural release, Mountains 01 Multråberget, is a smoky whisky aged for approximately five years in bourbon barrels, followed by nearly three years in Pedro Ximénez (PX) sherry casks, imparting rich notes of raisins and figs combined with bourbon’s vanilla character. The subsequent release, Mountains 02 Borgberget, is an unpeated whisky matured in Moscatel wine casks, resulting in a fruity sweetness with flavors reminiscent of tutti-frutti, papaya, and vanilla.
This series not only explores the effects of land uplift since the Ice Age, which has shaped the High Coast’s landscape, but also celebrates the region’s unique geological history through these distinct whisky expressions.
Skuleberget: A Tribute to Sweden’s Majestic High Coast
Mountains 03 Skuleberget is an unpeated whisky aged in casks that previously held the renowned sweet dessert wine, Sauternes. This wine, crafted from noble rot-affected grapes, enhances the whisky with delightful flavors of honey, apricot, and saffron, all balanced by a vibrant acidity. Already a success at whisky fairs and tastings, this expression has received high praise for its exceptional depth and complexity.
From today, whisky enthusiasts can find Mountains 03 Skuleberget at Systembolaget as part of the limited-time assortment.
